Vice President & Controller

Job Summary:
  • Responsible for the timely and accurate reporting of all financial data and the preparation of financial reports required by Company management, regulatory and rating agencies
  • Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Controller's Group and ensuring that all financial activities conform with Company goals and objectives, in conformity with generally accepted accounting principles, accounting policies and comply with government regulations
  • Responsible for the development, analysis and interpretation of statistical and accounting information to appraise profitability, balance sheets, income statements, cash flows, capital expenditures and cost centers
  • Responsible for designing, developing, implementing and recommending policies and procedure for the financial function
Job Requirements:
  • Accounting Degree
  • Certified Public Accountant preferable with insurance accounting experience
  • Minimum 15 years progressive accounting management experience
  • Proficiency in Platinum and FRx Report Writer
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, highly developed level of creativity and resourcefulness to manage the financial function is required
  • Must apply critical thinking skills to determine best financial approach, to maintain budget controls and to supervise a professional staff
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and ability to maintain current awareness of technical accounting
  • Ability to work with others in a team environment
  • Excellent organizational and Microsoft skills
  • Demonstrated leadership and excellent communication skills
Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the preparation of consolidated financial statements including cash flow analysis, footnote disclosures and related research and analysis
  • Oversee the preparation of quarterly and annual statutory financial statements of the State of Connecticut Department of Insurance and other regulatory filings, including Bermuda
  • Oversee the preparation of financial analysis and reconciliation of all general ledger accounts by legal entity
  • Perform applicable accounting research (US GAAP and Statutory Accounting) to ensure appropriate accounting principles are utilized
  • Address inquiries from the State of Connecticut Department of Insurance and various other states
  • Assist in the preparation of the material for the Board of Director's meetings
  • Oversee the management and direction of the performance, recruitment, retention and development of the Controller's group
  • Maintain effective communications and positive employee relationships
  • Maintain the accounting module within the Company's operating systems
  • Establish and maintain internal controls
  • Coordinate and manage the external audit and actuarial review
  • Coordinate with the in-house Regulatory Attorneys to ensure regulatory requirements are appropriately addressed
  • Oversee insurance transactions including, but not limited to, monitoring premiums, commissions, claim payments and related cash transactions
  • Oversee the review of policy information, reinsurance agreements, surveillance and claim analysis
  • Be a valued partner with all of the RVI business units

Manager, Quantitative Analysis

Job Summary:
  • Lead data quality improvement in RVI data warehouse
  • Produce and enhance existing operational reports.
  • Support objectives of quantitative department in all areas
Job Requirements:
  • Excellent computer skills with at least 5 years of extensive experience with statistical software package such as STATA, SAS, Eview and S .
  • Working knowledge of database structure and experience in conducting analysis using both SQL and statistical analytical tools.
  • Experience with C and Visual Basic is a plus.
  • Sound background in statistics and econometric modeling (survival analysis and time-series modeling is a plus). Knowledge of actuarial science is a strong plus.
  • Ability to undertake multiple assignments independently
  • Must be comfortable supporting a group of people and juggling multiple priorities
  • Must have excellent communication skills
  • Master's degree in applied statistics, econometrics or related quantitative fields is preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of working experience in an analytical field is required.
Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the main resource to create, maintain and modify data integrity checking process to improve data integrity in RVI data warehouse.
  • Conduct regular data quality audits with key statistical summary reports
  • Work with supervisor to migrate current reporting system to database-oriented process
  • Work with supervisor to conduct validation analysis to improve loss model forecast accuracy
  • Provide statistical modeling support for various business lines as well as corporate initiatives
  • Assist in improving quality and efficiency of current analytical applications
  • Participate in new analytical effort supporting insurance and analytical services product development
